Sometimes it’s hard to justify spending the money on a drill press when you know you’ll only use it on occasion. Well, the Skil 3320-02 drill press may change your mind. For a price of around $110, it promises to give you the ability to drill through both wood and metal, and finally make all the precision and angled holes that you’ve always wanted. However, you’re probably wondering if such an inexpensive model can really get the job done. Let’s explore the press’ quality in our Skil 3320-02 drill press review.

What We Liked About The Skil 3320-02 Drill Press

  • Laser – It’s such a simple feature, yet you’ll wonder why it’s not standard on every drill press. It’s ideal for drilling small holes where even being a few millimeters off can make all the difference.
  • Small Footprint – Unlike many floor models, the Skil 3320-02 won’t take up a lot of room in your shop. With only about a 10” base, it fits neatly on any workbench.
  • Solid Build – This drill press has an all metal construction, is sturdy, and feels built to last. It performs smoothly and is free of jitters that, when found on other products, make you question their durability.
  • Good Motor – When looking at drill press reviews people are always curious about the motor. We found the Skil’s 3.2 amp motor sufficient for drilling through wood and metal and never waivered through repeated usage.
  • Minimal Chuck Runout – There is little (if any) runout with this machine’s chuck, which means you can attach even the smallest drill bits and achieve nice results.
  • Surprisingly Quiet – For the cost, you might think you’d have to sacrifice on quietness, but not so with the Skil 3320-02. It makes as little noise as many precision instruments with twice the price tag.
  • Easy Adjustment – The crank rotates with ease making quick work of raising and lowering the table.

What We Didn’t Like About The Skil 3320-02 Drill Press

  • Needs a Light – With the laser working so nicely, it makes us wonder how difficult it would have been to add a simple light. Sure, you can always attach a clamp light, but a built-in would have been nice.
  • A lot of Assembly – Even the best drill press requires assembly, but this one seemed to take a bit more effort than usual. We especially wonder why Skil didn’t have the chuck factory installed; undoubtedly they can do it easier, and it wouldn’t have taken up that much more room in the box.
  • Speed Changes – This is not necessarily a complaint, but something to be aware of. There is no button or lever to automatically change speeds; meaning, you have to do it manually. This involves loosening screws and changing belts, and while it’s easy to do, it is an extra step.

Skil 3320-02 Drill Press Conclusion

Obviously, this isn’t the best drill press on the market, but it may very well be the best press for home hobbyists and those who want a little more capabilities than what is offered with their traditional handheld drill. It’s has great build and performance quality and should have no problem withstanding years of regular use.
